The Office of the Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is looking for qualified personnel to full up the available Associate Scientist and Assistant Scientist positions (Permanent). Agency employees with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

Education

Doctoral degree in the fields of natural, physical, or engineering sciences relevant to the job

Master’s degree in the field of natural, physical, or engineering sciences relevant to the job or its equivalent

Experience

Five (5) years of relevant experience after obtaining PhD degree

At least 10 years of productive professional research and development (R&D) work in the related field after obtaining MS degree

Training

32 hours of relevant training

24 hours of relevant training

Terms of Reference

  • Conceptualize, plan, direct, and supervise S&T activities on specific priority areas
  • Coordinate the systematic and periodic evaluation and monitoring of programs/projects and/or conduct R&D on specific priority areas
  • Provide technical assistance to co-workers/peers
  • Provide technical support to the DOST Secretary/Agency Head
  • Assist the DOST/Agency in the development, coordination, and supervision of S&T activities
  • Collaborate with various offices/institutions regarding the implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of program/projects and/or conduct R&D on specific priority areas
  • Provide technical assistance to co-workers/peers
  • Participate in other special studies and assignments given by the DOST Secretary/Agency Head
 

Required Submissions

At least two (2) published research papers/articles, excluding thesis/dissertation, in refereed journals as sole author or co-author even before or after obtaining the PhD degree

At least one (1) published research paper/article, excluding thesis/dissertation, in refereed journals as sole author or co-author even before or after obtaining the MS degree

Must have expertise on the following:

 

  • Data Science and analytics, machine learning and computing

o   Strong mathematical and analytical skills, computer programming competency, knowledge of computer languages, familiarity with cloud technologies and application, good communication and leadership skills are required.

 

Electronic embedded systems design and development

o   Competency required in electronic circuit design, FPGA/ASIC, microprocessor technologies, programming languages (C/C++/C#, assembly), firmware development tools, system-level EDA tools (eg. Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, SPICE). Component-level tools (VHDL, Verilog, and FPGA/ASIC Toolchain), Windows OS, UNIX/LINUX, embedded OS/RTOS

o   Problem solving and data analysis skills and good communication skills, particularly technical writing and documentation skills, are essential.

o   Proficiency in the operation of test and measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, vector signal generators, vector signal analyzers and logic analyzers and in the electronics manufacturing process also desired.

o   Prior project management experience in embedded systems development and background in radio frequency (RF) and wireless communications are advantages.

 

  • Candidates are expected to provide technical leadership and/or mentoring of development teams and must be highly organized, systematic, flexible, and goals and results-oriented.

 

FNRI

One (1) Associate Scientist

Education: Preferably PhD in Nutrition/Applied or Nutrition Epidemiology

 

Experience: 5-10 years of relevant experience; has published at least six (6) manuscript in scopus or peer-reviewed journals

FPRDI

One (1) Assistant Scientist

Education: Preferably PhD graduate related to nanotechnology or advanced composites of wood and nonwood forest products

 

Experience: Has experience in research in wood and nonwood forest products and/or ligno-cellulosic based materials

MIRDC

Two (2) Associate Scientists

Education: Preferably a PhD holder in the field of Advanced Mechatornics, Robotics, and Industrial Automation or in the field of Surface Engineering and Finishing

PNRI

One (1) Associate Scientist

Must have expertise in the following areas:

  • Nuclear and radiation safety: Nuclear reactor physics and safety; environmental impact assessment related, but not limited to nuclear and radiation sources; environmental dose assessments; knowledge of international nuclear regulatory standards related to nuclear facilities

 

  • Marine Radioecology and Radiometry; Marine biogeochemistry of stable and radioactive nuclides; radioecological risk analysis; perform basic nuclear instrumentation analyses: ie. High Purity Germanium Detectors (HPGe), gamma counters, Liquid Scintillation Counters (LSC), X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF), Isotope-Ratio Mass Spectrometry, Alpha Counters; chemical, radiochemical fingerprinting and dating techniques in the study of marine pollution/contamination, including tracing ocean circulation and water mass mixing; contaminant transport models and their applications; radiological dose assessments via aquatic pathways.

PTRI

One (1) Assistant Scientist

  • Preferably an expert on polymer chemistry or material science, or environmental science or related courses that can evaluate the environmental impact of PTRI processes/products using tools like Life Cycle Assessment(LCA)

 

  • Must have ISI-peer reviewed publication and approved process patent

Office of the Undersecretary for DRR-CC

One (1) Assistant Scientist

  • Preferably a PhD or DSc in the natural, applied, or social science;

 

  • Expertise and published work includes interactions between climate change adaptation and disaster risk management with communities, or science, technology, and innovation in understanding and addressing disaster and climate risks and human vulnerabilities

 

 

  • At least 5 years work experience in DRR-CC specialization

 

  • At least 10 years work experience in research project development and management, with at least 5 years of those in supervising junior research staff, and managing externally-funded research grants
