Algal blooms and red tide discussed in NSTW 2018

Dr. Rhodora V. Azanza, University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) Professor Emeritus and National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) President, presented the topic, “Algal Blooms and Red Tide can be Harmful,” during the 2nd day of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) Technology Forum.

Dr. Azanza stressed that people should coordinate with their local government to be informed of the cases of red tide in their community. She also mentioned their current study focusing on real-time monitoring and maritime advices devices for red tide and algal blooms, which they intend to distribute to the local government units. On top of the discussion, Dr. Azanza launched her coffee table book, "When the Blue Sea Turns Red" and distributed 10 copies to chosen participants from different SUCs and government offices. The forum was organized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD).
