Community governance and research and development exploits proved to be a good recipe as Mayor Ronnie Vicente E. Lagnada of Butuan City graced the luncheon meeting of the Caraga Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (CCAARRD) member agencies at Almont Hotel. The meeting was conducted prior to the formal opening of the Balanghay Festival, which sidebars the Indigenous Tree Plantations (ITPs) and Sago Farms and Industry Encounters through the Science and Technology Agenda (FIESTA). Lagnada expressed the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s willingness to work with the Consortium in ensuring demand-driven research and development undertakings that will work for the best advantage not only of Butuan City constituents but the whole of Caraga region.

Discussions focused mainly on the role of science and technology on food sustainability and creation of economic opportunities primarily on job generation. The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), through Director Marita A. Carlos of the Applied Communication Division, expressed its willingness to support research and development undertakings along this line. Membership of the City of Butuan to CCAARRD awaits the formal signing of a memorandum of agreement.
