DOST holds a simultaneous flag ceremony in celebration of the 123rd Independence Day

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) held its simultaneous flag raising ceremony in celebration of the 123rd Independence Day on June 12, 2021.

The flag ceremony was held in three venues: in DOST-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), DOST Complex in Bicutan, and in DOST PAGASA.

DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña led the ceremony at DOST-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) complex together with Assistant Secretary for International Cooperation Leah J. Buendia and Assistant Secretary for Finance and Strategic Planning Maridon O. Sahagun.

DOST-PCAARRD Executive Director Reynaldo V. Ebora led the heads of agencies of Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) Romulo T. Aggangan and DOST Region IV-A officer-in-charge Emelita P. Bagsit.

In his message, Secretary de la Peña highlighted the different wars the country is currently facing: war on poverty, hunger, disease, and fake news.

“With the challenges we are currently facing, the role of science and technology becomes more apparent. Through S&T, we can find solutions and means to improve lives. This is the premise of DOST’s programs, which highlights provision of inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development. This is what gives us the true meaning of freedom,” said Secretary de la Peña in Filipino.

At the DOST Complex in Bicutan, DOST Undersecretary for R&D Rowena Cristina L. Guevara led the assembly together with DOST Assistant Secretary for Human Resources Management, Management Services, and Special Concerns Diana L. Ignacio.

The group of PAGASA and other DOST offices in Quezon City were led by DOST Undersecretary for Scientific and Technical Services Renato U. Solidum, Jr. and DOST Assistant Secretary for Administration and Legal Affairs Teodoro M. Gatchalian.
