The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), through its Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD), has partnered with private and public agencies in the areas of environmental protection and technology commercialization.
These partnerships have been formalized through memorandum of agreements during the 2016 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) held from July 25 to 29, 2016 at the DOST-PCAARRD complex.
In one of the agreements, Pioneer Adhesive Foundation, Inc. (PAFI) undertakes to explore and sponsor the coral rehabilitation in other sites through the adoption of the PCAARRD coral asexual reproduction technology.
DOST-PCAARRD also partnered with Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. through the HARI Foundation Inc. for funding support in the implementation of the PCAARRD’s S&T Action Frontline for Emergencies and Hazards (SAFE) program. The program seeks to address social, economic and environmental impacts of climate change in communities.
Under the SAFE Program, the Council also partnered with the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) for projects on disaster risk mitigation and rehabilitation. DOST-PCAARRD previously collaborated with USeP on the Typhoon Pablo project to help typhoon victims recover from the destruction and to prepare for other environmental hazards.
On technology commercialization, DOST-PCAARRD partnered with the University of the Philippines Los Baños’ Center for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (UPLB-CTTE).
The agreement is expected to strengthen intellectual property (IP) management and technology transfer and commercialization of the Department of Science and Technology Innovation and Technology Center (DPITC) as well as that of UPLB-CTTE.
Max’s Group Inc. and DOST-PCAARRD’s partnership focuses on providing small farmers with a sure market through Max’s and its subsidiaries as buyers. The agreement mutually eyes on ensuring a stable and reliable supply-base as advocated by PCAARRD’s Science and Technology Community-based farms (STCBF) and the TechnoMart projects.
Lastly, the Philippine Coffee Board, Inc. (PCB), the In-Country partner of the global Coffee Quality Institute, will provide its expertise to DOST-PCAARRD in identifying high quality coffee through credible and verifiable system under a universal standard. In return, the Council will provide PCB the technologies it has developed for coffee.
