An Intellectual Property (IP) Valuation Training was conducted on March 1-3, 2023, at the Acacia Hotel in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
This was held in collaboration with the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), the Association of PAQE Professionals, Inc. (APP), and the Licensing Executives Society - Philippines (LESP).
Dr. André Gorius, member of the Licensing Executives Society International and president of Govalia, a management consulting services company in France, served as the resource speaker.
The activity is part of the series of technology transfer-related training programs being conducted by DOST-PCAARRD, in partnership with APP and LESP, for the implementers of DOST-PCAARRD-funded technology commercialization projects and programs such as the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IP-TBM), Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubation (ATBI), Patent Mining, and Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE).
Dr. Gorius specializes in the valuation of intangible IP assets and start-ups in the context of technology transfer, mergers and acquisitions, transfer pricing, and litigations. He uses his scientific and technical background as a physicist in technology assessment and management. He is also involved in many valuation activities of start-up companies, small and medium enterprises (SME), and large multinational enterprises.
He presented real-life applications and case studies of international IP or technology valuation and licensing agreements.
Training participants gained insights from Dr. Gorius as they shared their local experiences dealing with technology protection, management, and commercialization.
A total of 30 participants attended the three-day face-to-face IP Valuation Training including officials and members of LESP led by Atty. Bayani Loste and Atty. Patricia Bunye; officials and members of APP headed by Atty. Misael Costes and Atty. Editha Hechanova; representatives from the DOST-PCAARRD R&D network such as, Ifugao State University (IFSU), Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), University of the Philippines-Institute for Small Scale Industries (UP-ISSI), DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U), Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Visayas State University (VSU), National University (NU), and University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP).
Other participants were representatives from Hechanova Bugay Vilchez & Andaya-Racadio Law Firm; Hechanova & Co., Inc.; Cruz Marcelo & Tenefrancia; Tundayag IP Agents Intellectual Property Research and Documentation Services; Quisumbing Torres Law Firm; Philippine Coconut Research and Development Foundation, Inc.; and Pinoy IP Works. DOST-PCAARRD was represented by its Executive Director, Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora and Technology Transfer and Promotion Division Director Noel A. Catibog.
DOST-PCAARRD continues to undertake partnerships and collaborations with other agencies to further enhance the transfer and commercialization of Agri-based technologies.
