DOST-PCAARRD visits MODECERA project site in Nueva Ecija

Muñoz, NUEVA ECIJA – The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) recently conducted a field visit to monitor and evaluate the Monitoring and Detection of Ecosystems Changes for Enhancing Resilience and Adaptation in the Philippines (MODECERA) project sites in Nueva Ecija implemented and monitored by Central Luzon State University (CLSU).

As PCAARRD’s Strategic S&T Plan Manager for Climate Change, Dr. Engelbert R. Lalican of the Forestry and Environment Research Division (FERD) led the monitoring and evaluation team composed of For. Jenna Mae P. Ramos and Sherwin Delos Reyes, MODECERA project staff, along with For. Rosemarie L. Almanza and Eirene Grace C. Zaragoza, FERD staff member.

The PCAARRD M&E team was accompanied by Diosdado F. Dalusong, Michelle V. Tagaca and Charles Hans Emmanuel A. De Guzman, MODECERA project staff from CLSU.

Tagging and inventory of equipment were done by the PCAARRD M&E team at the Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management (ICCEM) at CLSU. This is to ensure that the budget allocated for the equipment is in line with the approved line item budget.

The PCAARRD M&E team visited different farms and ecosystems that were identified for the long-term monitoring of annual and perennial crops. The team also visited the monitoring site for soil erosion in Brgy. D.L. Magsanoc, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, as well as the sampling stations for streamflow and water quality assessment and monitoring in Brgy. General Luna and Brgy. Burgos in the upstream portion of Pantabangan-Carranglan watershed Nueva Ecija.

Falling under PCAARRD’s strategic research and development banner program, the MODECERA Program involves a long-term monitoring system in selected ecosystems to enhance resilience and adaptation of agriculture, fisheries and natural resources sector, through the promotion of science and technology based management and policy decisions.
