DOST-PCAARRD webinar to discuss food security challenges and opportunities during the new normal

Global and local perspective on food security, as well as an assessment of the food chain in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic will be discussed during a webinar organized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD).

The webinar titled, “Food security challenges and opportunities under the new normal,” will be held on June 30, 2020 at 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Philippine Time. It will be livestreamed at the Council’s Facebook page and may be accessed at https://bit.ly/PCAARRD_webinar.

 

Five speakers will provide global and local insights on food security amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Providing the local perspective are DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, who will discuss DOST’s role in ensuring food security under the new normal; DOST Undersecretary for R&D, Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, who will discuss the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on food security, and National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Academician, Dr. Eufemio Rasco, Jr., who will discuss the emerging and trending nexus among agriculture, nutrition, and the environment in the country.

Meanwhile, providing the global S&T perspective are Dr. Paul S. Teng, Chair of the Board of Directors, International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) and Ms. Monica van Wensveen, Development Research Broker of the Commonwealth and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO).

The webinar will be held to commemorate 9 years of PCAARRD Excellence or GALING-PCAARRD.
