Flavors of science bannered at the 10th Philippine Food expo

Coco sap products, muscovado sugar, pili oil, mango sauce, processed strawberry, confectionary peanuts, and canned goat meat fronted “The Flavors of Science” for PCARRD’s TechnoMart Program at the recently concluded 10th Philippine Food Expo held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

PCARRD’s participation in this showcase is a vital aspect of the TechnoMart program - a modality for pushing agro-based products from the communities to the markets. For this event, the Council supported the participation of the regional products and their respective champions.

The trade fair provided a venue for the TM-supported products to gain exposure to various markets through trial sales and on-site product promotions. More important however, interest was generated among exporters and food retailers who are interested to carry the products in their own stores.

Currently, negotiations are on-going for all the products to enter the SM weekend bazaars while individual products are being considered by family-owned pasalubong centers and retail shops.

PCARRD Applied Communication Division Assistant Director Cesar Frias (rightmost) discussing the different uses of pili oil while Magsasaka Siyentista Rebecca Tubongbanua (2nd from the right) demonstrates how to cook Pasta in Mango sauce sautéed in pili oil.A total of 263 exhibitors composed of small medium enterprises (SMEs), exporting companies, and retailers of different food and food-related products took part in the trade fair.

Incidentally, the Philippine Food Expo is an annual event organized by the Philippine Food Processors and Exporters Organization, Inc.(Philfoodex). It provides a venue where producers and consumers can meet to discover prospective partners and clients. This year, Philfoodex celebrated its 10th year of continuous support and assistance to the needs of the Philippine food industry with the theme, “Food safety management in the global market”.
