“Hayop ni Juan, Dala’y Kabuhayan!”

PCAARRD’s Livestock & Poultry Breakthroughs Aim Global

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) will once again unfold its newest science-based solutions and innovations in agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) through the Council’s Agri-Aqua Technology Forum.

The forum shall showcase technologies, information, and knowledge in AANR during the upcoming National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) on July 24-28, 2014 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

The forum, among other activities, will be highlighted by the Livestock Day on July 25 to be led by PCAARRD’s Livestock Research Division (LRD) headed by Dr. Edwin C. Villar.

Inspired by the theme “Hayop ni Juan, Dala’y Kabuhayan,” the techno forum will feature topics on dairy goat and layer duck as sustainable and profitable enterprises.
Resource speakers, each from the private and public sectors, will share information on the outcome of selected S&T-based strategies and technologies designed and tested by the agency’s research collaborators.

Mr. Rene Almeda, proprietor of Alaminos Goat Farm will share his first-hand Agripreneurial experiences as he speaks about “Entrepreneurial Spirit and Success in Goat Dairying in the Tropical Philippines: The AGF Experience.”

Dr. Angel Lambio, Professor Emeritus of the Animal and Dairy Sciences Cluster in UPLB, on the other hand, will lecture on the topic  “Itik ni Juan, Yamang Pangkabuhayan."

Consultations with the said experts through technology clinics will follow right after the techno forum.

Entrepreneurs, goat farmers, students, duck raisers and breeding enthusiasts, among others, are expected to attend the forum.

Goat’s milk and assorted duck egg products such as balut, penoy, and salted eggs await lucky winners in the raffle draw.

On top of the forum, recently-developed world class technologies, anchored on PCAARRD’s Industry Strategic S&T Plans (ISPs), will simultaneously be showcased through exhibits and information materials during the weeklong event.
Bearing the theme, Philippines: A Science Nation Meeting Global Challenges, the NSTW will celebrate science and technology as it unveils S&T breakthroughs aiming to provide long-term solutions to respond to global challenges.
