Oro, S&T Media Service)An inception meeting was held for the supply chain improvement (SCI) project on industrial tree plantation (ITP) at the PCAARRD Headquarters recently.

The inception meeting was conducted to level off expectations among project teams; clarify technical issues and fine tune methods; harmonize work plans among implementing agencies; and identify potential bottlenecks and their solutions.

Each team presented the commodity industry profile; initial number of supply chains to be traced; and estimated number of respondents to be covered in the study. A workshop was also held to incorporate the salient comments from the discussions.

The SCI projects are on gmelina in Regions 2 and 3 and on falcata in Regions 10, 11, and 13.

The project on gmelina will be led by the Nueva Viscaya State University (NVSU) and Central Luzon State University (CLSU), while the project on falcata will be conducted by the Central Mindanao University (CMU), University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPM), and Caraga State University (CSU). These projects comprise batch 5 of SCI projects in the agriculture, aquatic and natural resources sectors.

Results of the SCI projects are expected to provide valuable insights to enhance the implementation of the Council’s Industry Strategic S&T Plan (ISP) on ITP and achieve its targeted outputs and outcomes.
