Print and broadcast professionals who have greatly contributed to disseminating information about the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) sector are recognized in this year’s Ulat SIPAG Award.
Ulat SIPAG Award is organized and conferred by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD). It is awarded annually to outstanding print and broadcast media professionals during the annual Awards and Recognition ceremony of the Council.
This year, DOST-PCAARRD awards two major categories: National print and broadcast and Regional print and broadcast categories.
The conferment of the Ulat SIPAG Award was held during the 10th anniversary celebration of DOST-PCAARRD themed, “Harnessing the gains of GALING PCAARRD towards a more resilient AANR sector” held on November 29, 2021 via DOST-PCAARRD’s Facebook page.
National print awardees
This year’s first place for the National print category is Mr. Julio P. Yap, Jr., business editor of the Daily Tribune. Mr. Yap is recognized for his expertise in laymanizing information and packaging them into easy-to-read and well-written feature articles. This is his fourth consecutive first place win of the award.
Mr. Yap was also bestowed a special recognition under the regional print category for disseminating articles on the R&D outputs of the Council to the Western Visayas region through the local paper, Panay News.
Ms. Lyn B. Resurreccion, science editor of BusinessMirror, takes second place in the national print category. The Council cites her well-written, in-depth, and comprehensive science articles that are easy to understand and appreciated by many.
The third place was awarded to Mr. Glendel D. Nazario, reporter of Manila Bulletin. He is cited for his news articles produced out of his work covering the DOST-PCAARRD that provide important and concise information about recent developments in the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources R&D.”
National broadcast awardees
Ms. Hermelina C. Tenorio, host of Syensya Na, Tekno Pa program of the Eagle Broadcasting Corporation is first place winner of the National broadcast category. Tenorio is recognized for her extensive experience in broadcasting and her understanding of scientific information, which are demonstrated in her conversational approach to interviews.
Meanwhile, Dr. Josephine D. Agapito, host of Pinoy Scientist program of the Eagle Broadcasting Corporation is the second place winner of the National broadcast category. Her background in science helped her communicate the topics well to the general public. “Being a Biology Professor and a broadcaster, she understands scientific terminologies and easily relates with her interviewees,” says her award citation.
The third place winner is Ms. Annabelle D. Surara, host of Eat Connect Na of Eagle Broadcasting Corporation. Ms. Surara is cited for her consistent flexibility in reporting the technologies and innovations under the Council’s Industry Strategic S&T Program (ISPs) and integrating it with the main focus of her program, which is about food.
Regional broadcast awardees
This year, two broadcast professionals from DZJV 1458 Radyo CALABARZON took first and second places in the regional broadcast category.
Mr. Emil Jun B. Delos Santos “Daniel Castro,” host of Diskarte ni Daniel Castro garnered first placedue to his extensive experience and expertise in broadcasting, which are clearly demonstrated in his confident and relaxed demeanor in discussing outputs of research in the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources sector.
The second place was given to Ms. Rose Anne L. Sibag, host of Kaibigan sa Barangay. Her most prominent qualities were her extensive experience in broadcasting, demonstrated in her modulated voice and conversational tone that has helped her interviewees feel at ease and deliver relevant information to her listeners and viewers.
