PCAARRD draws students’ participation to NSTW through “Likhang SIPAG”

Mrs. Lorna C. Borja of the San Bartolome National High School, San Pablo City, shows the NSTW 2015 poster to her students as she motivates them to join the PCAARRD poster painting contest. The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology heightens its participation to the National Science and Technology Week 2015 as it involves secondary students to its poster and painting contest.

Dubbed as Likhang SIPAG and to be held for the second time this year during the NSTW, the on-the-spot poster painting contest revolves around the theme “Strategic Industry S&T Program for Agri-Aqua Growth or SIPAG ni Juan.”

As a sectoral council of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), PCAARRD commits itself to provide science-based know-how and tools that will enable the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources sectors to raise productivity to world-class standards. This research and development avowal serves as DOST’s Outcome One and the front runner of its eight major outcomes.
The Strategic Industry S&T Program for Agri-Aqua Growth (SIPAG) ni Juan bolsters PCAARRD’s commitment to Outcome One, which the Council pursues through its Industry Strategic S&T Programs (ISPs), among other programs, hence the tagline SIPAG ni Juan.

SIPAG embodies the hard work and dedication in research and development pursuits of the different institutions involved in the ISPs to bring out the best in agriculture and aquatic R&D. It also reflects the industry of the country’s farmhands, as beneficiaries of these science-based know-how and strategies, so that the fruits of the earth will spring forth for the benefit of every Juan.

The Likhang SIPAG painting contest shall be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., July 28, at the Outcome One Hall, SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City.
The contestants will be given one hour and a half to conceptualize and draw their masterpieces, which they have to do in the presence of the judges.

The contestants may bring their painting tools (colors, brushes, pencils, pallets, etc); but the organizers will provide them with a set of poster colors and illustration boards.  Only water-based paints are allowed as medium.
The entries will be evaluated based on originality (30%); relevance to the theme (30%); creativity (30%); and execution (10%).
