PCAARRD features coco sugar and coffee in T2P

Guests of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD)  are in for a sugar-and-caffeine fix as it  features recipes using coco sugar and coffee in the Technology to the People (T2P) media conference on November 10, 9:00 a.m. at its E.O. Tan Hall in Los Baños, Laguna.

T2P, as its name suggests, involves the media in disseminating research and development (R&D) results to the public.

This edition of the T2P, aptly themed “Flavors of science: Sips and bites”, taps the culinary expertise of the students of Trace College in developing recipes using coco sugar and the mastery of preparing coffee beverages by the Philippine Barista and Coffee Academy.

As such, food and beverage demos, and taste tests will highlight the event to bring these products from the (science and technology) S&T kitchen to the kitchen of the consuming public. Critiquing of the products follows and will be conducted by a selected panel of evaluators from the food industry.

Aside from these, Philippine Coconut Authority-Zamboanga Research Center’s Ramon Rivera will provide the R&D updates on coco sugar development. Magsasaka Siyentista and coco sugar exporter Benjamin Lao will present the coco sugar industry and market.

Benguet State University’s Prof. Valentino Macanes will talk on organic Arabica green beans production, while Cavite State University’s Dr. Alejandro Mojica will tackle the business opportunities in the coffee industry.

Incidentally, coco sugar and coffee are supported by PCAARRD’s TechnoMart Program. TechnoMart helps bridge the gap between the sources of agro-based business to the communities to the appropriate market. Also, the program provides a dynamic venue where S&T products are commercialized and coordinated with the entrepreneurs to gather feedbacks to improve these products.
