PCAARRD holds 10th Global Technology and Information Search seminar

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) conducted the 10th Global Technology and Information Search (GTIS) seminar on December 9, 2015.

Held at the Elvira O. Tan Hall of PCAARRD, the GTIS Seminar served as a venue through which Filipino experts/researchers sent to the Rural Development Administration (RDA) in South Korea could present relevant technologies/information gathered during their visit.

The visit to RDA was part of the Exchange Scientists/Experts Mission Program and the Applied Communication Experts (ACE) Program under the PCAARRD-RDA Work Plan of Cooperation,

This year, the GTIS Seminar was also joined by beneficiaries of the benchmarking activities funded by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) under the Capacity Building Program for Budding Scientists in the Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (AANR) sectors.

Members of the Los Baños Science Community Foundation Inc. (LBSCFI),Office of the Provincial/City/Municipal Agriculturist, and PCAARRD staff also joined the seminar.

“The best practices and latest innovations shared by the participants can be adopted locally for development towards global competitiveness,” Dr. Danilo C. Cardenas, PCAARRD Deputy Executive Director for Administration, Resource Management and Support Services (ARMSS), emphasized.

Sixteen speakers presented the outputs of their respective benchmarking activities, namely:

  • Dr. Jennifer T. Niones, Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and Angelito Carpio, Crops Research Division (CRD, PCAARRD), Study on rice bacterial diseases damage in Korea-Philippines;

“The GTIS seminar will continue to be a venue to facilitate exchange of knowledge and learnings about state-of-the-art technologies and innovations from researchers and scientists whose official GTIS travels were supported by the Council,” Dr. Leah J. Buendia, Policy Coordination and Monitoring Division (PCMD) Director, said.

Organized annually by PCAARRD as a catch-up strategy for Philippine Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (AANR) sectors, the GTIS seminar aims to promote globalization of S&T and knowledge-sharing among peers and stakeholders in the scientific community, as well as promote the localization of knowledge learned from other agencies and institutions.

The seminar aims to disseminate new technologies and information learned from other countries where PCAARRD has partners and linkages and to facilitate possible collaborations in adopting new technologies.
