PCAARRD’s nationwide search for the best R&D papers winds up with the conduct of the National Symposium on Agriculture and Aquatic Resources Research and Development (NSAARRD) on October 9 at the Council’s Elvira O. Tan Hall.
NSAARRD showcases the most outstanding contributions of individuals and institutions in the improvement of the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources sectors through R&D.
Entries to the NSAARRD are first prize winners of the Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights conducted all over the country. Eleven research and 10 development papers made up the initial entries. This was trimmed down further to determine the top three in each category.
Vying for top honors in the research category are “Design and development of an automated hot water treatment for mango” of the Mariano Marcos State University; “Morphology, phylogeny, and biology of twig blight disease of citrus caused by Haematonectria haematococca” of the Nueva Vizcaya State University; and “Utilization of mango peels as source of pectin” of the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization.
For the development category, papers on “Peanut Seed Security Support Program in Region 2” of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit–Cagayan Valley Integrated Agricultural Research Center, “Solid waste management cum organic fertilizer production in Angeles City: Support to high value vegetables production” of the Central Luzon State University, and “Development of national control strategies for Brontispa longgissima, Gestro an introduced pest of coconut in the Philippines with emphasis on biological control” of the Philippine Coconut Authority–Davao Research Center are competing for major placements.
Winners will be awarded on November 8 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
