The Council presented its directions for 2011─2016 at the 8th National Joint Regional Research and Development Coordinating Committee (RRDCC) Chairpersons and Consortium Directors’ Meeting held recently at One Tagaytay Place in Tagaytay City.
On top of the discussions was the S&T (science and technology) Agenda or STA for 2011─2016.
According to PCARRD Deputy Executive Director for R&D (DED-RD) Danilo C. Cardenas, crafting the STA is about coming up with a clear vision and approaches to ensure sustainable food security amidst climate change; meeting food demands; and promoting resiliency of natural resources against depletion/degradation.
He added that the agenda translates PCARRD’s vision and mission into concrete planned actions or focused activities through specific, measurable, feasible, and time-bound targets.
Cardenas also presented the results of the STA consultations done in PCARRD, Central Luzon, Cebu, and Davao.
While Cardenas focused on the Council’s future directions via the STA, PCARRD Deputy Executive Director for Institution Development and Resource Management (DED-IDRM) Richard M. Juanillo led the review of the performances of the Council’s regional consortia in 2009. The results of the review also served the bases for new assignments to help improve or maintain the consortia’s implementation of regional programs.
On a lighter note, PCARRD Executive Director (ED) Patricio S. Faylon congratulated the winners of the PCARRD R&D Awards, namely, Ugnay (outstanding consortium), Pantas (outstanding researcher/scientist and research administrator), Tanglaw (outstanding research institution), Professional Media (broadcast and print), and Best R&D Papers. The awards were conferred during the recently concluded PCARRD 38th anniversary celebration held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.
