Inilunsad ng Philippine Swine Industry Research and Development Foundation, Inc. (PSIRDFI) ang 2016 Swine Production Performance of the Philippines noong nakaraang Marso 21, 2017. Ito ay produkto ng proyektong, “Swine Production Performance Monitoring Project in the Philippines” na tumagal ng 25 taon at sinimulan ng Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD).
Ang proyekto ay isinagawa ng PSIRDFI at PCAARRD katuwang ang ibang pribadong komersyal na babuyan at pribadong kumpanya na gumagawa ng gamot at pakain.
Pinangunahan ni Dr. Arturo T. Calud, PSIRDFI Project Leader, ang paglalahad ng ‘production performance report.’ Parte rin ng paglulunsad ng report ang mga teknikal na paglalahad kasama ang “Increasing Productivity and Efficiency thru DNA Marker Selection in Swine Breeding” ni Dr. Ester B. Flores ng Philippine Carabao Center (PCC); “Development of E-commerce System for Breeder Swine and Boar Semen” ni Prof. Katrina Abriol-Santos ng Institute of Computer Science (ICS), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB); at “Batangas Pork - The Green Pig” ni Dr. Ruth Niclat-Sonaco of Agricultural Training Institute – International Training Center for Pig Husbandry (ATI-ITCPH).
Ang proyekto ng Swine Production Performance Monitoring ay nangongolekta, naghahambing, at sumusuri ng datos ng produksyon galing sa iba’t ibang mga babuyan sa bansa bawat taon. Naglalayon ito na gumawa ng mga pamantayan para sa mga babuyan sa bansa upang patuloy na mapataas ang produksyon at kakayahang kumita ng may-ari ng babuyan. Ang proyektong ito ay sinimulan ni Dr. Valentino Argañosa at Dr. Rodolfo Peneyra, mga dating project leaders ng UPLB.
