Resilience of Agrifood sector tackled at CCAARRD FIESTA

Mr. Richard L. Tabudlong, Senior Science Research Specialist of the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Caraga, discussed the topic, “Mitigation and Resilience in the Agrifood sector” during the technology forum held at the People’s Hall, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Building, Butuan City. The forum was one of the activities in connection with the conduct of the Farms and Industry Encounters through the Science and Technology Agenda (FIESTA) focusing on Indigenous Tree Plantations (ITPs) and Sago organized by the Caraga Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (CCAARRD).

Tabudlong explained the environmental ills brought about by climate change and its impact on agriculture primarily on rice. The lecture focused on the adaptation measures to climate change and variability based on the results of the study conducted by DA-Caraga. Other topics presented at the Techno-Forum include the adoption of next generation rice varieties for the major ecosystems of Caraga region; the use of Rice Crop Manager as a decision support tool for increasing yield and income of farmers in Caraga; accelerating the dissemination of associated technologies on rice production that are resource-use efficient; promotion of soybean as a new food source through the development of new food products; and sustainable production and commercialization of Adlai.
