It takes a lot of effort and resources though, to disseminate or promote technologies or innovations to change mindsets and ways of farmers, encourage them to adopt these, and finally help them increase their productivity and income.

The issue on coconut scale insect (CSI) or cocolisap, the most devastating pest ever faced by the coconut industry, once more takes the center stage of the SMX Convention Center, during this year’s National Science and Technology Week (NSTW).

Cacao’s genes and physical characteristics are being looked into in a study by applying the latest technology in functional genomics in a bid to improve the country’s cacao industry.    

Funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), the project seeks to address yield loss in cacao, which is estimated at 40% due to pests and diseases.

Recent studies show that live or latent cells of efficient strains of microorganisms enhance growth and yield of crops, and help remediate soil fertility problems. These microorganisms are prepared as microbial inoculants or biofertilizers.

Enterprising farmers can look at corn silage production as an alternative source of livelihood. 

Corn silage is a fermented, high-moisture, stored fodder, which can be fed to large and small ruminants.

The findings were presented during the review of the Central Luzon biodiversity program, Integrated Research and Development Program on Biodiversity Assessment of Selected Forest Ecosystems in Central Luzon.

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) conducted a three-day field visit recently in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.

The visit aimed to evaluate projects under the Integrated Research and Development Program on Biodiversity Assessment and Conservation of Selected Forest Ecosystems and additional on-going projects.

 

  1. The basic premise of the contest is to solicit a shirt design which will convey the PCAARRD brand of service.
  2. The contest is open for all. Participants may submit as many entries as they like but must accomplish one entry form per entry.

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) was awarded a Plaque of Recognition by the Municipal Government of Los Baños led by the town Mayor Caesar P. Perez in its quadricentennial celebration held on September 17, 2015 at the old Los Baños Municipal Hall.
