Los Baños, Laguna–The economic profitability and viability of developed value chains of sweetpotato in Tarlac, Albay, Leyte, and Samar were reviewed at the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) headquarters recently.

A project to detect fungal diseases such as anthracnose, stem-end rot, and scab in ‘Carabao’ mango was launched recently. 

The three-year project, which has the title, “LAMP Detection Assays for Anthracnose, Stem-end Rot, and Scab Disease Pathogens in Philippine ‘Carabao’ Mango,” will be implemented by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources

To save and restore the country’s native forests, the production of plantation-grown timber must be increased. In relation to this, a project on advancing the required knowledge and techniques for utilizing available genetic resources of tree species, as well as establishing the foundation genetic materials for long-term breeding programs was reviewed.

In celebration of the 13th National Biotechnology Week, the Inland Aquatic Resources Research Division (IARRD) and Marine Resources Research Division (MRRD) of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), conducted the S&T Aquatic Forum at Brentwood Suites, Quezon City.

The forum was in line with the theme “Bioteknolohiya Para sa Kalikasan, Kalusugan, Kagandahan, Kabuhayan, at Kaunlaran

The Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI) recently launched the Dr. A. R. Librero Research and Development Award. The award aims to recognize authors of researches in the field of socio-economics, agriculture, and natural resources within the National Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Network (NAARRDN).

Thirty-two researchers and technology transfer officers (TTOs) from 13 public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) have filed patent applications online. This was accomplished after a five-day training on patent drafting course and mentoring sessions held at the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) Innovation and Technology Center (DPITC), Los Baños, Laguna. 

Los Baños, Laguna – Dr. Jocelyn E. Eusebio, Crops Research Division (CRD) Director of the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural   Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), presented the initiatives of the Industry Strategic S&T Programs (ISPs) on Crops during the recently concluded Society for Human Ecology (SHE) Conference. 

Nagsasagawa ng mga pagsubok ang isang proyekto sa rehiyon II, III, VII, at X upang tiyakin ang mga benepisyo ng carrageenan sa munggo at mani.  

Ang proyekto na may titulong “Multi-location Trials of Oligo-Carrageenan for Improved Productivity of Mungbean and Peanut in Regions II, III, VII, and X,” ay pinangungunahan ng Philippine Nuclear Research Institute ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PNRI). 

Ang mga pagsubok ay isinasagawa sa paraang ‘on-station’ at ‘on-farm’ na pagsusuri sa mga

Nananatiling isang hamon ang pagsasalin ng teknolohiya sa kabila ng patuloy na pagpapabuti ng mga teknolohiya sa sektor ng agrikultura, pangisdaan, at likas na yaman. Ito ang hamon na inihayag ni Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, ‘Acting Executive Director’ ng Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) sa ika-12 na Global Technology Information Search o GTIS Seminar na isinagawa kamakailan.

Inilunsad ng Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI) ang isang proyekto na itataguyod ang syensya at teknolohiya at pataasin ang bilang ng mga turista sa bayan ng Los Baños. Ang proyektong ito ay may titulong, “Development of Science Tourism in Los Baños.” 

Kamakailan lang ay pormal na inilunsad ang proyekto sa pamamagitan ng pag-pirma ng ‘memorandum of agreement’ kasama ang Department of Tourism (DOT) sa CALABARZON at Department of Education (DepEd).

Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, Acting Executive Director of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), represented the Philippines in the Regional Expert Consultation on Underutilized Crops for Food and Nutritional Security in Asia and the Pacific held last year in Bangkok, Thailand. 

Nagpulong kamakailan ang mga mananaliksik mula sa anim na ‘state universities and colleges’ o SUCs at mga ahensya ng gobyerno sa Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) upang kilatisin ang mga nagawang proyektong “National Research and Development Project on Watershed Management in the Philippines (Phase 2).”

Ang proyekto ay may layunin na pagandahin ang mga gawain tungkol sa watershed at

Isang proyekto na pinondohan ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at ng Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) ang kasalukuyang isinusulong upang madaling matukoy ang mga sakit ng manggang kalabaw o ‘Carabao mango’ gaya ng ‘anthracnose,’ ‘stem-end rot,’ at ‘scab.’
