Partner organizations of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), particularly from the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country expressed the need for more Balik Scientists to help in their research and development (R&D) initiatives. This was made apparent during the one-day Balik Scientist Program (BSP) Consultation Meeting held recently in Cebu City. 

Eleven People’s Organizations (POs) composed of farmer-cooperators from Leyte and Samar showcased their sweetpotato products during the Sweetpotato–Industry Strategic Program (SP-ISP) Business Launch and Product Exhibit held at Robinsons Place, Tacloban City in Leyte last January 26, 2018.

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD)  recently conducted a training on shrimp health management. 

The training aimed to update participants on current trends in shrimp’s health management as well as technologies for disease detection.

The search is on for the first Ulat SIPAG Awardees. PCAARRD has opened its doors to nominations for the 2018 Ulat SIPAG award. Consisting of the print and broadcast categories, Ulat SIPAG, seeks to boost the promotion of the Council’s Strategic Industry (S&T) Program for Agri-Aqua Growth (SIPAG).

Two spin-off projects on coconut genetic and varietal improvement are expected to boost the country’s coconut industry. 

The two projects kicked off following the success of the Industry Strategic S&T Program (ISP) for Coconut, particularly the use of genomics, genetics, and molecular marker assisted breeding for a competitive and sustainable Philippine Coconut Industry. 

Los Baños, Laguna – The Regional Durian Research and Development (R&D) program (Phase2) kicked off recently in an inception meeting held at the headquarters of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD).

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) recently approved a P4.1 M grant to determine the best strain of tilapia suited for the cold climate of the Cordilleras. In spite of the culture of tilapia in “fish terraces,” the Cordilleras is faced with losses in tilapia production because the cool climate does not suit conditions for growing this warm water species.
