Julian Lapitan, the Partnership manager of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), has been selected to receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award for International Service and Extension by the UPLB College of Agriculture Alumni Association. The award will be given during the Alumni Fellowship and Awarding Ceremony on 9 October 2014.

The Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD) of PCAARRD has approved a 1-year project on the Analysis of Extension and Technology Transfer Modalities in Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Resources (AFNR) in the Philippines with the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) sharing the cost of funding for its publication.

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna – Dr. Munawar Kazmi, Operations Manager of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) Agriculture Sector Linkages Program (ASLP) expressed his agency’s intention to expand its linkages with the Philippines during his September 12, 2014 visit to PCAARRD.

The University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao has recently developed a handy mango picker to improve the harvesting process.  The mango picker consists of two simple and easy-to-use pickers― one with a triggering device and another without.

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna -- To promote the  use of bamboo and strengthen the bamboo industry, the Forestry and Environment Research Division of PCAARRD held a five-day training workshop at the PCAARRD headquarters recently. 

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development, Department of Science and Technology, conducted its Annual Program Review and Planning Meeting in connection with its funded projects under the Mango R&D Program at the Council’s Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna recently. 

Despite the “orange warning” raised over in Laguna due to Tropical Storm (TS) Mario (international name is Fung-Wong), PCAARRD had successfully passed the 1st Surveillance Audit for its ISO 9001:2008 certification last September 19, 2014.

The Central Luzon State University is promoting mature feed products and feeding schemes towards enterprise, particularly in goats.

Few years ago, the Philippine duck egg industry primarily represented by small farm entrepreneurs was on the verge of collapse. Primarily brought about by the wide variation of our duck genetic resources, the near breakdown became apparent   in terms of significant drop in duck layer inventory, closure of duck farms, unstable supply of duck eggs and erratic prices of duck egg products.

Los Baños, Philippines, September 15, 2014 – To better equip responders and managers of disaster programs in Laguna, a technology forum on disaster preparedness and management was held at the NCAS Auditorium, UPLB Campus on September 11.

Five papers in the research and development categories will compete for top honors in the National Symposium on Agriculture and Aquatic Resources Research and Development (NSAARRD) on October 28 at PCAARRD’s Elvira O. Tan Hall.
